DIY Wedding: Paper and Fabric Flowers

Do you love paper?  I could honestly spend a whole day in a paper store.  Well, minus some time to eat and wash my hands-- I take paper store etiquette seriously!  Love fabric?  Don't get me going!!!  These are a few of my favorite things!!!

Here are some lovely paper and fabric flower tutorials.  I'm a total 27-year-old grandma, I know.  My kind of bachelorette party would be all my ladies getting together to eat some sweets, sip some pretty drinks, and make paper and fabric flowers 'til we're dizzy!

How gorgeous is this bouquet from Sunny & Stumpy on Etsy?!

Do you have a favorite?  Definitely a hard choice, but I think mine is the mixed real and paper flowers.  It's the best of both worlds!

Lovely Birds Tutorial: DIY Cards, Hand Towels, Pillows, and More!

What do you do with all those fabric scraps that you just can't bring yourself to throw away?
Make birds!
You can sew these sweet birds on just about anything!  Cards, hand towels, baby onesies, children's clothing, pillows, the list goes on and on...

You will need:
Fabric scraps
Scissors
Needle/Thread or Sewing Machine
Embroidery Floss
Object to sew birds on

I made this template for you to download and use as a pattern.

1. Print your template.
2. Cut out the bird body, the face, the wing, and the belly.
If you want to save paper you could just print one copy and work strategically (whole bird first, then face, then wing, then belly).  If you have scrap paper, then print a few copies and you can cut your fabric at the same time.
3. Cut out your bird parts from your fabric.
4. Sew the face to the bird body.
5. For the chubby bird-- sew the belly now.
6. Sew the wing
7. Sew your bird onto whatever item you desire.
8. Using brown embroidery floss, embroider a french knot for the birds eye.
9. Use a simple stitch and sew tiny legs.  And a beak for your chubby bird.
Post links to pictures of your birds in the comments section!  Or tweet them (haha) @MisterGandMe

I got the idea for this pattern pretty closely from a dish towel from Anthropologie-- so I wouldn't sell anything using this pattern.  These birds probably should be for your personal and non-commercial enjoyment only!

Old Journal Face Lift

I always get so excited when I buy a new notebook.  I usually write in it for a few pages, forget about it entirely, and buy another new and exciting notebook.  In an attempt to be green (and frugal), I have decided to not buy anymore notebooks until I use up my old ones.

I've been having the itch lately for new notebooks-- but I'm sticking to my resolution.  Maybe if I give my journals a pretty facelift I won't be so tempted to go buy a new one.

Here is a tutorial for a fun way to jazz up your notebook!

You will need:

Journal
Fabric
Glue, Mod Podge, or Golden Gel Medium
Paint
Paint Brush
Stencil
Sponge or pouncer
Scissors
Ribbon

1. Cut your fabric to fit the cover of your journal.  I added an inch on each side to wrap the fabric around to the inside of the cover.

2.  Paint your adhesive medium to the cover.  Lay your fabric on top and smooth it down.  If you are wrapping the fabric to the inside, paint a strip of adhesive medium to the inside cover as well.  Let it dry completely.

3.  Cut out space for the binding.  Then use your adhesive to adhere your fabric to the back of your journal, and tuck the edges inside against the back cover-- just like you did on the front.

4.  If you like the look of your fabric covered journal-- you're done!
5.  If not, keep working!  Pick out a stencil.  Remember my Martha Hurricane Holiday Vase project?  I used the rose stencil from the Four Seasons stencil kit and layered the rose pattern.  Then I used my gel medium to adhere a ribbon to the bottom.
6.  Wait for it to dry.  My ribbon was white and looked funny after being glued so I painted it a light blue.  Your old journal is new and beautiful and you can love it once more, filling its pages with your best ideas!

Thanks for stopping by my blog today!  I would love to see your fancy new journals!  Post pictures of your work on Mister G's Facebook page or on Twitter @MisterGandMe.  Be sure to check out my Etsy Shop too! :)
