This skirt was honestly a challenge to make. I have never followed a pattern before, yet somehow I was surprised to find myself cursing while ripping out many a stitch. Some of the directions in the pattern just didn't make sense. The sizing on the pattern was also a little confusing. My waist to hip ratio didn't match up with any of the size options- so I chose the larger size and I think it fits just fine.
I made this skirt with a navy gingham fabric. I look forward to making this pattern again with some beautiful fall colors and textures.
I would love to be an accomplished seamstress one day-- so I know it's high time I start at the beginning, pump out a few wonky pocket skirts, and learn from my mistakes.
I know Mister G will be at my feet cheering me on as I practice my way to master seamstress status!
A few weeks ago, I asked the lady at JoAnn's about beginning sewing classes. She pulled out the catalog and asked how old I was. I replied "26". She looked at me with raised eyebrows as I noticed her pointing to "Teen Classes". She said, "Seriously? You just look very young..." and gave me a weird look as though I were trying to sneak my way into the adult classes. I'm sure she gets that a lot though-- who wants to learn to sew fleece pajama pants in the summer anyways?
I found this vintage book on the top shelf of my closet today!
I will post my favorite tips from this book in my next sewing entry!
A big thanks to my amazing husband who took pictures for this entry in the blazing heat with his thick foam neck brace on. Love you huzz!
